Facedrive, as is well known, is a multi-faceted “people-and-planet first” tech ecosystem. But not everyone is entirely aware of the actionable steps the company is taking on both a short- and long-term basis towards shaping a greener world.
What follows here are just a few of the ways the company is doing that in some of its verticals to reduce overall carbon footprint in Canada, and why it should encourage anyone who’s concerned about Facedrive’s ESG mandate to jump on board and be a part of the positive change it’s looking to generate.
EcoCRED
Last spring, Facedrive acquired EcoCRED in an effort to continue boosting its ESG endeavours to even greater heights. A new sustainability platform manifested in the form of an app, EcoCRED works by estimating a user’s daily carbon output based on all relevant factors of their life, including: How they commute, how they use energy (like air conditioning), what sort of car they drive, the area in which they live, and more. It then goes on to suggest alterations a user can make to their daily structure that should, if done properly, significantly reduce their personal carbon footprint.
The app also acts as a hub of information, where a user can go to not only make changes in their daily habits to become more eco-friendly, but where they can read and learn about the seismic affects of climate change then and now, and where they find and purchase numerous sustainable products.
Facedrive has and continues to implement EcoCRED across its various verticals where appropriate, and doing so has helped create greener experiences for users, whether they be ordering food or searching for transportation.
Steer
Steer is one of Facedrive’s most obviously green verticals. It’s a service that specializes in electric vehicles and acts as a hassle-free, technology-driven, low-emissions alternative to owning, leasing or renting. It was created to challenge and provide a superior recourse to traditional car ownership, and in so doing accelerate the switch to environmentally-friendly transportation.
In addition to Steer’s array of EVs, each one conveniently comes with the model’s respective charging cable and adapter, which can be plugged into any outlet. Users therefore won’t have to worry about buying any supplementary materials themselves—Facedrive offers the full environmentally conscious experience of owning an EV. And should this be a new experience, users can always solicit the advice of their concierge (provided upon signing up with the service) or seek out a charging brochure that resides in each car’s glove box.
When it comes to vehicle emissions in particular, EVs are greener than gas-powered vehicles in every way. There are two types of emissions: Direct and life cycle. The former come via a car’s tailpipe and contribute to smog (something EVs don’t produce), and the latter come via the larger process around fuel and vehicle production (EVs are better in this area because of their non-reliance on gas).
According to the U.S. Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, the fact that EVs produce fewer direct emissions means they also contribute less overall to climate change than traditional cars.
With each subscription to the service signalling a switch to electric vehicles, Facedrive is acting as a guiding light towards one of the most significant ways to reduce carbon footprints.
Rideshare
When it comes to ridesharing, arguably the service that Facedrive is best known for, the eco-friendliness comes from both the vehicle options a rider has and the competition of trips. For the former, riders can opt to make a trip in a hybrid or electric vehicle. Facedrive’s algorithm specifically hones in on those eco-friendly options as well, adding additional rider incentives should they select them.
As for the latter, each trip will have its carbon footprint calculated by an in-app algorithm that takes into account the type of the vehicle and distance travelled. Then, a specific number of trees are planted to offset that carbon output.
While simply using gas-powered vehicles only would have been easier, Facedrive is dedicated to upholding and pushing a ridesharing program that helps shift the world towards a more eco-friendly place.
At Facedrive, we strive to make change and support Canada with our solutions. We would like to know more from all our stakeholders, how we can be better and make help Canada and Canadians to reduce carbon footprint.
